policy overview

Nearly 1 in 6 families in Denver misses a meal because they cannot afford it, contributing to a total meal gap of 17 million meals per year. Rescuing food that would otherwise be wasted and redirecting that food to address hunger can help address a significant portion of this meal gap.

The purpose of this Policy Working Group is to explore opportunities for encouraging food rescue donations (or composting) from city facilities, including the Denver International Airport, Arts and Venues, Jail, and Recreation Centers, and city office buildings.
